Garnet Squadron Wins Orlando Regional!

Garnet Squadron Orlando Regional 2014

The Garnet Squadron traveled to Orlando, Florida to compete in their second regional event March 13 – 16th at the UCF Arena. After a disappointing ending to what the team thought to be a successful showing at the Palmetto Regional; the team was fired up with new ideas and even more inspiration as the competition began. The team played and won 6 out of 11 hard-fought matches. The team had built a strong reputation as a strongĀ  in-bounding/defensive player. The team even managed to pull off a huge upset win against the well seasoned number one seed team 624 from Texas. As the qualification rounds came to a close we sent our human player Jack out to represent the team for alliance selections. The second seed alliance captain Team 1592 “The Bionic Tigers” selected Team 180 “SPAM” as their first pick and when it came around to their second pick they chose us to help round out their alliance. With a quick tune-up we began our sweep through the eliminations only to be temporarily yielded once by the strong alliance of Team 1251 “The Techtigers,” Team 179 “Swamp Thing,” and Team 79 “Crunch” in the elimination finals. It was truly an awesome team to be a part of. When it came time for the finals we were the youngest team on the field by a span of 9 years!

Now the team is back home and prepping for the International Championship with some new improvements to be made before we’re ready to take to the field in St. Louis. We’re thankful to our sponsor Bosch for helping us pay the registration fees on such short notice and to our new sponsors, The University of South Carolina and Hengst Automotive, as they help us in preparing to travel to St. Louis.
